Factors influencing researchers to publish in open-access: Is it a self-decision or a self-reinforcing cycle?

Purpose The current study examined Israeli researchers from various disciplines concerning their perceptions, attitudes and awareness of scientific publications in open access (OA) journals repositories. Design/methodology/approach A survey instrument was developed distributed to 202 universities, colleges research institutions. used the united theory acceptance use technology (UTAUT) model as a tool for mapping factors known influence publish OA Findings empirical confirmed mediating effect association between researchers’ perceptions actual publishing OA, through behavioral intentions (BI). Furthermore, BI are mediated by self-decision OA. More specifically, researcher's publication level depended not only on positive (Atti), performance expectancy (PE) social (SI) BI, but also conditions that support who disciplinary affiliation science, technology, engineering math (STEM) which lead researcher voluntarily both green gold Research limitations/implications This contributed cumulative understanding formulating validating an use. Practical implications findings practices discussed.
